SEEKING CLOSURE

Closure. A word that’s often romanticized as a cure for heartbreak, yet it rarely delivers the peace we’re led to expect. In quiet moments, it creeps into our thoughts, whispering to us to relive old conversations, recount painful memories, and reopen wounds. Yet, closure is rarely about justifying pain; it’s about reconciling the memories we cherished with the realities we endured.

Love and the Illusion of Permanence

We believe in love, to bring happiness, to guard against sorrow, and be a constant presence in our life. It’s a powerful belief- that love can anchor us through any storm

What happens when that foundation crumbles? Everything crumbles, The ground beneath us is shaken and we’re left clinging to memories, wishing for something that can never return. We make excuses, hoping things will somehow go back to how they were.

But sometimes, love doesn’t protect us; it breaks us. And the pieces left behind must be handled carefully, creating room for both endings and new beginnings.

“If you love me as you say you do,” she whispered, “make it so that I am at peace.”
— Anna Karenina

Our minds seek closure, but often it’s not the closure we imagined. We crave respect, an explanation, one last conversation that replays in our heads but never happens. The heart relentlessly seeks validation, even if it means going down paths of endless heartache.

Our Story: A Tale of Love and Loss

“Our story” began in simple, hopeful ways. Over years, through laughter and shared vulnerability, we filled each other’s lives. I loved deeply and completely. In that love, I believed we were capable of weathering any storm. Yet, on one fateful night, that belief was swept away. What I thought was unbreakable shattered. Our story was crushed under the weight of accusations, misunderstandings, and moments of raw, unfiltered pain.

The memories linger. Places we frequented, conversations we cherished, all tainted with a mix of longing and sorrow. In the end, I was left to navigate through fragments of the love that I had believed would be my greatest source of strength.

“You need a story to displace a story,” you once read to me. And that night, our story was replaced by a new one — one where love became painful and hollow.

Letting Go of What Was

Time moves forward, often without the healing we hope it will bring. Apologies remain unspoken, questions unanswered. Apologies stay unspoken, questions unanswered, and memories that once brought joy now fade as love slowly withers.

I was told my heartbreak was self-inflicted, that I had trusted too deeply and loved too freely. Yet, these accusations feel hollow. For who can dictate the way a heart loves?

I had once believed in the “you” who made promises of forever, who painted dreams of a life filled with warmth and laughter. But that “you” is now a memory, and I now know.

The Battle Between Love and Loss

The true battle, I realize, isn’t between two people but between the love we want to believe in and the reality we have to face. In my heart, I fought for love, forgiveness, and understanding. Yet, your doubts and your own darkness, overshadowed everything we had built. Trust turned to resentment, understanding to assumption, and in the end, we both lost.

And so, I’m left standing with the pieces of a love I once thought would last a lifetime. The vows I made now remind me that love, while beautiful, can also bring endings. I chose you, and in doing so, I broke myself, realizing that love alone cannot save.

Moving Forward

Closure is less about having answers and more about finding acceptance. Perhaps closure is overrated because it’s less a solution and more an ongoing journey of healing. We may never find a final, perfect answer, but with time, we can find peace by holding the memories without letting them haunt us.

Closure is about moving forward, knowing that some stories don’t end well, that some questions will remain.. But through this, we learn resilience, self-worth, and the strength to keep moving. The journey continues, and with each step, we grow closer to the peace we seek all along.
